Valentina Farcas studied piano at Bucharest Academy of Music and singing at Folkwang University of Arts in Essen. She won awards in several international vocal competitions and made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2006 as Blonde (Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”) to wide critical acclaim. She has also been a member of Komische Oper Berlin. Her repertoire includes Zerbinetta (R. Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos”), Gilda (Verdi’s “Rigoletto”), Adele (J. Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”), Mozart’s Susanna (“Le nozze di Figaro”) and Pamina (“Die Zauberflöte”), Giulietta (Bellini’s “I Capuleti e i Montecchi”), Solveig (in a world premiere of Grieg’s “Peer Gynt”), Donizetti’s Adina (“L’elisir d’amore”) and Lucia (“Lucia di Lammermoor”), Puccini’s Musetta (“La bohème”) and Liù (“Turandot”), Princess/Nightingale (Ravel’s “L’enfant et les Sortileges”), Queen of Shemka (Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Le coq d’or”), Woglinde (Wagner’s “Die Walküre”). As a sought-after concert soloist, she has sung Mozart’s “Vesperae solennes de confessore” and Händel’s “Messiah”, Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis”, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, “St. Matthew Passion”, “St. John Passion”, “Magnificat”, Haydn’s “The Creation” as well as Mozart’s Requiem and “Exsultate jubilate”.
