Väino Puura



Väino Puura is the soloist of the Estonian National Opera since 1976. His repertoire includes Mozart roles like Figaro and Almaviva (“Le nozze di Figaro” by Mozart), Guglielmo (“Così fan tutte”) and Papageno (“Die Zauberflöte”); Verdi’s Giorgio Germont (“La traviata”), Renato (“Un ballo in maschera”), Miller (“Luisa Miller”) and di Posa (“Don Carlo”); Donizetti’s Enrico (“Lucia di Lammermoor”) and Belcore (“L’elisir d’amore”), Marcello (Puccini’s “La bohème”), Figaro (Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”), Escamillo (Bizet’s “Carmen”), Onegin (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin”), Lescaut (Massenet’s “Manon”), don Ferdinand (“Betrothal in a Monastery” by Prokofiev), The King (“Die Kluge” by Orff), Lehár’s Danilo (“Die lustige Witwe”) and René (“Graf von Luxemburg”); Daphne (Styne’s and Stone’s “Sugar”), Colonel Pickering (“My Fair Lady” by Loewe), Magician Celio (“The Love for Three Oranges” by Prokofiev), Feri (“Die Csardasfürstin” by Kálmán), Aristide de Faublas and Archibald (Ábrahám’s “Ball im Savoy”) etc. He has also been successful as the soloist of large scale works and has given successful recitals. In 1979 he has won the second prize at the M. Glinka International Competition of Opera Singers and was awarded with the Georg Ots Prize in 1999.
