Silja Aalto studied singing at Järvenpää Music School (2004–2008), continued her studies at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences as a vocal pedagogue (2008–2013) and currently she is finishing her Master studies in the Sibelius Academy Opera Studio. She is a Grand Prize winner of the Metropolitan Vocal Competition and a Grand Prize winner of Lyra New York International Vocal Competition (both in 2017). In the same year she won the 2nd prize at the International Elizabeth Connell Competition and the 1st prize in the Lied category. In April 2017 Aalto won the 2nd prize at the PLMF vocal competition and she is also the winner of Toivo Kuula singing competition of 2016. Her repertoire includes Countess (Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”), Helena (Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”), Minna (Rautavaara’s “The Gift of the Magi”), Alice Ford (Verdi’s “Falstaff”). Her future engagements include an opera recital in Lincoln Centre (February 2018) and a soloist part in Mahler’s Second Symphony with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra (April 2018).
