Mehis Tiits began his singing studies in Tartu Music School No. 2 with Eve Kivisaar. In 2010 he continued his studies at Heino Eller Music School with Elena Suik and later with Taavi Tampuu. Since 2014 he is a student at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (the singing class of Taavi Tampuu). He has participated in the master classes of Jenny Anvelt, Eva Märtson, Irina Dolzhenko and Virgilijus Noreika. In 2009–2012 he sung in the chorus of Vanemuine Theatre and since 2014 he is a member of Savonlinna Opera Festival chorus and since 2016 he is a member of the additional chorus at the Estonian National Opera. In 2013 Mehis made his opera debut as Monsieur Trique in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” in Vanemuine Theatre. In 2017 he sang the role of Christian in Tamberg’s opera “Cyrano de Bergerac”, a co-production with the Estonian National Opera and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since the season 2017/18 he is a grantee of the Estonian National Opera. His repertoire at the Estonian National Opera includes Nemorino (Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’amore”), Christian (Tamberg’s “Cyrano de Bergerac”), Speaker Einrich (Puur’s “The Colours of Clouds”), Gaston (Verdi’s “La traviata”) and Basilio (Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”).
