Austrian born bass Manfred Hemm has performed Mozart roles such as Leporello and Masetto (“Don Giovanni”), Figaro (“Le nozze di Figaro”), Papageno (“Die Zauberflöte”) at the Vienna State Opera as well as in Bayerische Staatsoper inMunich, Hamburg State Opera, DeutscheOperBerlin, Opéra National de Paris, Zurich Opera House and other European opera houses, as well as at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Colón, Tokyo Opera Theatre, the Salzburg Festival, Aix-en Provence Festival, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and others. He also received enormous critical acclaim in the bel canto repertoire with roles, such as Giorgio (Bellini’s “I puritani”, Opera Company of Philadelphia), Henry VIII (Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena”, Bavarian State Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Finnish National Opera), Basilio (Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia“, Bayerische Staatsoper inMunich), Ramphis (Verdi’s “Aida”, Scottish Opera), Orbazzano (Rossini’s “Tancredi”, Staatsoper Berlin), Verdi’s Requiem in Sao Paolo and Rossini’s Stabat Mater in Gothenburg. Recent engagements include Sarastro (Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”, San Francisco Opera), Gurnemanz (Wagner’s “Parsifal”, Teatro Carlo Felice, State Opera South Australia, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Prague National Theater, etc), Baron Ochs (Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” at the Bolshoi Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Den Norske Opera, Opera de Marseille, Sydney Opera House), Osmin (Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”, Israeli Opera, Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Petruzzelli), Rocco (Beethoven’s “Fidelio”, Opéra National de Paris), Hunding (Wagner’s “Die Walküre”, Nationaltheater Mannheim). In 2011 Manfred Hemm sang the demanding role of Gurnemanz in Wagner’s “Parsifal” (the production of Estonian National Opera within the frameworks of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 and Nargenfestival).
