Currently, Katariina Heikkilä is about to finish her Master Studies at the Sibelius Academy, having majored in Lied and oratorio music. She has studied with Eeva-Liisa Saarinen, Mari Vuorijärvi, Anna-Clara Groundstroem, Ritva Auvinen and Aulikki Eerola. She has participated in the master classes of Maria Kowolliki, Teresa Berganza, Eiddwen Harrhy, Gabriele Fontana and Jorma Silvasti. Her teachers in Lied singing and early music have been Ilkka Sivonen and Ilmo Ranta, Matias Häkkinen, Aapo Häkkinen, Jukka Rissanen and Päivi Järviö. Her repertoire includes the mezzosoprano parts in Händel’s “Messiah”, Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater”, Saint-Saëns’ “Christmas Oratorio” and Mozart’s Requiem. Heikkilä has been the soloist of Hämeenlinna and Helsinki City Orchestras and Ensemble Nyland. She made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2012 as Cornelia in Händel’s “Julius Caesar”. She has also sung the role of Secretary in Menotti’s “The Consul” (the production of Sibelius Academy, 2012). She has won the 2nd prize at the Kangasniemi Singing Competition in 2010 and been the finalist of Timo Mustakallio’s Singing Competition in the summers of 2011 and 2013.
