Jyrki Anttila studied singing at the Oulu Conservatory, at the Sibelius Academy opera studio (1995–1998) and with Jaakko Ryhänen (1996–2002). Currently his teacher is Kalevi Koskinen. Since 1998 he is a soloist with the Finnish National Opera. As a guest soloist he has sung at the Tampere, Oulu and Vaasa Opera Houses, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Latvian National Opera, the Bern Opera and the Leipzig Opera. Jyrki Anttila has been the Artistic Director of the Lohja Tenor Festival (2005–10), the Artistic Director of the Ilmajoki Music Festival (2010–15) and the Artistic Director of the Kirjuri Classic Festival (2012–15). His repertoire includes the title role in “Orlando Paladino” by Haydn, Tamino (Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte”), Hervey (Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena”), Verdi’s Gabriele Adorno (“Simon Boccanegra”) and the Duke (“Rigoletto”), Matteo (R. Strauss’ “Arabella”), the Duke (J. Strauss’ “Eine Nacht in Venedig”), Wagner’s Siegmund (“Die Walküre”), Erik (“Der fliegende Holländer”) and the title role in “Parsifal”, Don José (Bizet’s “Carmen”), Mussorgsky’s Andrey Khovansky (“Khovanshchina”) and the False Dimitri (“Boris Godunov”), Lensky (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”), Puccini’s Ruggero (“La Rondine”), Cavaradossi (“Tosca”), Des Grieux (“Manon Lescaut”) and Pinkerton (“Madama Butterfly”), Boris (Janáček’s “Káťa Kabanová”), Juhana (Kokkonen’s “The Last Temptations”), Antti (Madetoja’s “The Ostrobothnians”), Shemeikka (Merikanto’s “Juha”), Merchant of Novgorod (Sallinen’s “The Horseman”), Felix Ysupov (Rautavaara’s “Rasputin”), Kálmán’s Tassilo (“Die Gräfin Mariza”) and Edwin (“Die Czárdasfürstin”), Danilo (Lehár’s “Die lustige Witwe”) among others. His latest roles have been Eisenstein in Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”, Shuysky in Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”, Števa in Janáček’s “Jenůfa”, the title role in “Opera about a great man – Kekkonen” by Uljas Pulkkis. In spring 2015 Jyrki Anttila will appear at the Estonian National Opera as the Officer in Hindemith’s “Cardillac” and in the title role in Wagner’s “Tannhäuser”. Jyrki Anttila won the Somero National Tenor Contest (1997) and the Tampere Opera Grand Prix (1999).
