Jaak Jõekallas graduated from Tallinn Pedagogical University in the field of Bibliography in 1993 and Georg Ots Tallinn Music School (1995, teacher Henn Eerik). He has furthered his education with Virgilijus Noreika (1995–97) and Heidy Tamme (2000–03, musical theatre singing). Since 1990 he sings in the chorus of Estonian National Opera, including smaller solo parts. He has also performed in the productions of Vanemuine Theatre, Von Krahl Theatre and Smithbridge Production. He has sung in the ensemble Operetta Scretta and has hosted together with Triin Ella the popular radio show “The Magical Power of Melody”. He is the author of Vikerraadio program “Nostalgia”. In addition, he is the author of concert-performances “Imre Kálmán. Music through tears” (2010), “Composers and their muses” (2013) and “Just one time” (2014). As a singer his repertoire includes Arno (Vinter’s “Spring”, Tommy (Vinter/Raudmäe “Pippi Longstocking”), Tony Schlumberger (Kálmán’s “Die Zirkusprinzessin”), Freddy (Loewe’s “My Fair Lady”), Celestin (Ábrahám’s “Ball im Savoy”), Mendel (Bock’s “Fiddler on the Roof”), Tom Trainor (Youmans’ “No, No, Nanette”), Emile (Friml’s and Stothart’s “Rose-Marie”), Tölpa (Vinter/Ehala/Raadik “Pippi!Bumpy!Pooh!”), Kusti (Ehala’s “Bumpy”), Indrek (Raadik’s “The Truth and Justice of Vargamäe”), Baron Eugen von Rohnsdorff (Kálmán’s “Die Csárdásfürstin”), Herman’s Jean-Michel (“La Cage aux folles”) and Barnaby Tucker (“Hello, Dolly!”), Statue (Sauter’s and Weill’s “You and Me”), Second Me (Laas/Kuntu “Hold”), Binder (Schubert’s “Die Dreimädelhaus”) Achilleus (Offenbach’s “La belle Hélène”), Baby John (Bernstein’s “West Side Story”), Bailiff (Tubin’s “The Parson of Reigi”) among others. Jaak Jõekallas is also the author of the biography “The Unforgettable Muiliza Korjus” (2012, Pegasus) and articles for various publications. His hobbies include collecting the autographed photos of musicians, film stars, politicians and athletes.
