Ita Ever is one of the most bellowed actresses in Estonia, whose repertoire includes both drama, film, radio play and TV-roles. She graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) Estonian actors’ training in 1953 and joined Estonian Drama Theatre in the same year. Ita Ever has performed the leading roles in the plays by W. Shakespeare, E. Vilde, A. Kitzberg, O. Luts, A. H. Tammsaare, M. Traat, J. Kruusvall, J. Kross, A. Kivirähk, R. Saluri, A. Kivi, H. Ibsen, B. Brecht, J. Steinbeck, F. G. Lorca, M. Gorki, L. Tolstoi, A. Tchekhov, J. W. Goethe, M. Maeterlinck, J. Genet, E. O’Neill, E. Albee, R. Cooney etc. She has also performed in Nargen Opera and Vanalinna Studio theatres and participated in variety shows, radio plays, performed on the radio, TV-plays and movies. She has been acknowledged with numerous awards: Merited Artist of the Estonian SSR (1966, 1973), Best Actress of the Baltic Theatre Spring festival (1984), best actress (“The Colours of Clouds”), Big Ants – Estonian Drama Theatre Colleague Prize (1999, 2006, 2010), The Estonian National Culture Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award (2001), Order of the White Star, 3rd Class (2001), Cultural Award of the Estonian Republic for a long period of artistic achievement (2007), Annual Estonia Theatre Award for the Leading Actress (2011), Dark Nights Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award (2016) among many others.
