Helen Lokuta


Helen Lokuta was a guest soloist of the Estonian National Opera in 2001–2006 and a soloist since 2006. Her roles include Mother Ell (Puur’s “The Colours of Clouds”), Carmen (Bizet’s “Carmen”), Silva (Kálmán’s “Die Csardasfürstin”), Angelina (“La Cenerentola” by Rossini), Fedora Palinska (Kálmán’s “Die Zirkusprinzessin”), Händel’s Cleopatra (“Julius Caesar”) and Almirena (“Rinaldo”), Wagner’s Mary (“Der fliegende Holländer”), Brangäne (“Tristan und Isolde”) and Ortrud (“Lohengrin”), Euridice (Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice”), Puccini’s Musetta (“La bohѐme”) and Wowkle (“La fanciulla del West”, stage director José Cura), Erna/Ophelia (T. Kõrvits’ “Butterfly”), Siébel (Gounod’s “Faust”), Lyubasha (Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride”), Polina (“The Queen of Spades” by Tchaikovsky), Verdi’s Flora (“La traviata”), Emilia (“Otello”) and Maddalena (“Rigoletto”), Haydn’s Volpino (“Der Apotheker”), Constanza (“L’isola disabitata”) and Lisetta (“Il mondo della luna”) as well as Lola (Mascagni’s “Cavalleria rusticana”); Mozart’s Annio (“La clemenza di Tito”), Dorabella (“Così fan tutte”) and Cherubino (“Le nozze di Figaro”), Kálmán’s Silva (“Die Csárdasfürstin”), Fedora (“Die Zirkusprinzessin”), etc. She has also sung solo parts in oratorios and given recitals all over Europe. In 2005 she received the Pille Lill Music Foundation award Young Musician in the name of the foundation’s patron Lord Carlisle’s and in 2007 she received the Estonian Annual Annual Theatre Award for the title role in Rossini’s opera “La Cenerentola” and for the roles in Tõnu Kõrvits’ chamber operas “Fire Garden” and “My Swans and My Thoughts” (in cooperation with Von Krahl Theatre and Nargen Opera), the Estonian Cultural Endowment Prize 2007 for her opera roles and the SEB Audience Award 2011, 2015 and 2019.
