Georg Malvius majored in acting and directing and also studied history, psychology and Romanic languages. Georg Malvius has worked as a managing and artistic director for 17 years in four different theatres in Sweden and Finland. He has also taught acting, musical arts and directing in nearly 20 countries. He was elected as a professor in musical arts in Göteborg (1991) and in Munich (2000), where he also worked as a head of the musical departments. Malvius is a playwright of several plays and musicals. He has staged 60 plays, 17 operas and operettas, and 78 musicals in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania , Norway, Denmark, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Monaco, Luxemburg and China. At the Estonian National Opera he has staged Bock’s “Fiddler on the Roof” (1989 and 2016), Rossini’s “Barber of the Seville” (1994), Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” (2014). In Estonia he has also staged Dickens’ “Nicholas Nickleby” (1997), Kushner’s “Angels in America” (1996), Ashman’s/Menken’s “Little Shop of Horrors” (2000), Norman/Stoppard/Hall’s “Shakespeare in Love” (2016, all in the Estonia Drama Theatre), Boublil’s/Schönberg’s “Les Misérables” (2001) and “Miss Saigon” (2002), Bert’s “Oliver!” (2003, all in Tallinna Linnahall), Sherman’s “Bent” (2003, Old Town Studio), Kander’s “Cabaret” (2003, Russian Culture Center), Larson’s “Rent” (2004, Club Hollywood), Kander’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (2009, Vanemuine Theatre), Jacobs/Casey’s “Grease” (2013), Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” (2014), Menken/Ashman/Rice’i “Beauty and the Beast” (2018, all in Vanemuine Theatre). His production of “Rain Man” is currently playing in Tampere Theatre. Soon he will stage “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” in Vanemuine. He has received 13 international prizes for his artistic work, two of which are for productions in Estonia: the Best Director of the Year (1990 – “Fiddler on the Roof” and 2003 – “Oliver!”).
