Laureate of the 2011, Klaudia Taev Competition for Young Opera Singers, Elina Shimkus has been described as brightly sonorous with beautiful cantilena and a surprisingly powerful and stable high register by OperaNews.Ru. Her repertoire includes Mozart’s Aminta (“Il re pastore”), Susanna (“Le nozze di Figaro”), Melia (“Apollo et Hyacinthus”), Angelica (Vivaldi’s “Orlando furioso”), Händel’s Damon (“Acis and Galatea”) and Atalanta (“Xerxes”), Cassandane (Veichtner’s “Cyrus und Cassandane”), Librarian (Ešenvalds’ “The Immured”) as well as Euridice (Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo”). Much in demand on the concert and recital circuit Elina has recently accepted a residency with the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga. Recent engagements include Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung”, Mozart’s Requiem, “Vesperae Solennes de Confessore”, Groβe Messe in c-Moll, “Regina Coeli” and “Exultate, jubilate”, Bach’s “St Mark Passion”, “St John Passion” and “St Matthew Passion” as well as several cantatas and “Christmas Oratorio”, Vivaldi’s “Introduzione e Gloria”, Händel’s “Messiah” and Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater”.
