Alena Shkatula


Alena Shkatula graduated from Minsk Ballet School in 2003. In 2003–2008 she was a soloist with the Belarus Opera and Ballet Theatre. Since 2008 she is a principal dancer of the Estonian National Ballet. Her repertoire includes Edur’s/Aints’ “Catherine I”, Blanche Dubois (Meckler/Ochoa/Salem’s “A Streetcar Named Desire”), the title role in Schiavoni’s ballet “Medea” to the music of Stravinsky, Schnittke and Dead Can Dance, Tatyana (Cranko’s “Onegin”), Cinderella (Prokofiev’s “Cinderella”), Jeanne Hébuterne (Edur’s/Aints’ “Modigliani – the Cursed Artist”), Nikya (Minkus’ “La Bayadère”), Rosalinde (Hynd’s “Rosalinde”), Manon (MacMillan’s “Manon”), Tchaikovsky’s Odette/Ottilie (“Swan Lake”), Sugar Plum Fairy (“The Nutcracker”) and Princess Aurora (“The Sleeping Beauty”), Queen Anne (“The Three Musketeers” by Nixon), Woman (MacMillan’s “Song of the Earth”), Solo in Ravel’s “Boléro”, Scholz’s “Symphony No. 2” and Edur’s “Silent Monologues”. She is a finalist of the Helsinki International Ballet Competition (2009), the winner of the Annual Estonia Theatre Award and the ERGO Dance Award in 2012.
