Maeots Ain

Ain Mäeots graduated from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Drama School as an actor in 1994. Since the same year he is a member of Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu: in 1994–99 as an actor, since 1997 as a director, in 1999–2006 as the Drama Director and since 2006 as a director. He is a member of the Estonian Stage Directors’ Union. He has received further tuition within the training programme for European film professionals SOURCES 2 (2010–11 and 2014) and participated in Judith Weston’s master class “Directing Actors” (2013, Amsterdam). Ain Mäeots has been a screenwriter and director for several films and TV-series: “Taarka” (2008, Exitfilm; Cultural Endowment of Estonia “Best Directing Debut” Award, 2009), TV-series “ENSV” (since 2010, ETV/Thors, 2 seasons were also screened on Eurochannel), “Demons” (2012, Kopli Kinokompanii, screenwriter and director). He has staged over 40 productions for theatres. His last works at Vanemuine Theatre include: Kundera’s “Jacques and his Master” (2000), Twain’s “Huck” (2000, Vanemuine Theatre and Emajõe Summer Theatre), Kivisildnik/Kauksi Ülle “Saint” (2001), Cooney/Chapman’s “Not Now, Darling!” (2002), Horowitz’s “Mindgame” (2002), Jones’ “Humble Boy” (2003), Stoppard’s “Utopia” (2003, The Harbour Theatre, Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Drama School’s diploma performance, 2004), Miller’s “The Crucible” (2004), Kivirähk’s “Theatre Paradise” (2006), Hellstenius/Amjørsen’s “Elling” (2006), Ots’ “The Blood of Koidula” (2008), musicals: Stiles’ “Honk!” (2002), Bernstein’s “West Side Story” (2005), Rodgers/Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” (2008), Pajusaar/Põldma’s “Detecktive Lotte” (2008) and “Lotte the Cosmonaut” (2012, all at Vanemuine Theatre), Tesor/Lindsay-Abaire’s “Shrek” (2013, Estonian Puppet and Youth Theatre), Bergman’s “Fanny and Alexander” (2014), in other theatres: Tätte’s “The Highway Crossing” (2003, Tampere City Theatre), Kauksi Ülle “Taarka” (2005, Obinitsa Farmyard), Rahman’s “Ride” (2006, Hansa Theatre Yard), Kivastik’s “The Phantom of the Theatre“ (2006, ETV TV-play), Ots’ “Dannebrog, Pitka and Emperors” (2008, open air production at the Tallinn beach promenade) and “The Saga of Jaan Poska” (2010, Tallinna Poska Museum), Rahman’s “Sauna” (2008, Hansa Theatre Yard), Kauksi Ülle/Mäeots’ “Peko” (2011, Värska/Vanemuine Theatre), Shaffer’s “Amadeus” (2015, Seinäjoe City Theatre). In addition, Mäeots has been a stage director for various non-theatrical galas and entertainment events.
