Estonia Theatre and Concert House Anniversary Festival on September 6-20, 2013

On September 6, 2013 one hundred years will pass from the opening of the Estonia theatre and concert house. The 100. anniversary of the building will be celebrated with a festival “Estonian Theatre and Concert House 100”, organized in cooperation with the Estonian National Opera, Eesti Kontsert, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Estonian National Male Choir, Hortus Musicus, Latvian National Ballet etc.

The festival opens with a historic opening gala on September 6, followed by a project “A House for the Whole Family!” on September 7 dedicated to children and youngsters. A Theatre Market follows on September 8. The festival continues with “The Lake of a Hundred Swans” in cooperation with the Latvian National Ballet on September 11, the world premiere of “Butterfly”, an opera by Tõnu Kõrvits on September 13 and 15, recounting of the beginning years of the theatre and “The Opera Gala of Generations” on September 14.

Within the festival there are several concerts, excursions in the theatre house as well as public rehearsals and recordings, a book presentation, discussions, etc.

    This year the long-serving principal conductor of the ENSO Nikolai Alexeev celebrates his 30th year since his debut with the orchestra.     The Denizens of the Estonia Theatre in Fine Arts

    Exhibition in the Adamson-Eric Museum from September 6 until November 24, 2013.

    The exhibition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Estonia Theatre building and is a part of a larger series of cultural and other events. The exhibition and its accompanying programme were prepared in cooperation with the Estonian National Opera, the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum, and the Estonia Society. On display are works of art that introduce people who have been associated with the Estonia Theatre for the last century.
