Estonian National Opera celebrates the birthday of Thomas Edur with a festive ballet gala
On Saturday, January 19 a festive ballet gala “Ballet Gala – Thomas Edur 50” will take place at the Estonian National Opera.
The gala features a retrospect of some of the most dazzling moments in Thomas Edur’s career via video excerpts. Dancers of the Estonian National Ballet as well as many superb guest dancers will perform and pass on their birthday wishes.
Thomas Edur has been named as one of the best male dancers of his generation. Edur has been noted for his elegant style and exemplary partnering skills in classical ballets as well as for his expressive body language in contemporary dance productions.
In 1990—2009, Edur was a principal dancer of the English National Ballet. His career has taken him to ohter renowned stages as well: Birmingham Royal Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, Berlin State Opera, Cape Town Ballet, Opera Roma, Zürcher Ballett, Finnish National Opera, Houston Ballet, Teatro Colón, Dutch National Ballet, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Mariinsky Theatre among others. After he finished his dancing career, Edur became the artistic director of the Estonian National Opera’s ballet troupe and in 2010 Estonian National Ballet was born under his leadership.
