“Aida” for the last time this season
For the last time this season on May 2nd, the beloved opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi will be on stage. The leading roles are sung by Alisa Gitsba, Mikheil Sheshaberidze and Monika-Evelin Liiv. The conductor is Risto Joost.
“If anyone had told me a few years ago that I would write an opera for Cairo, I would have said he was mad,” wrote Verdi in 1870. Nevertheless, the madness became reality and the Egyptian viceroy Isma’il Pasha commissioned an opera from Verdi, who was at the height of his career. “Aida” combines the magnificence of Grand Opèra, powerful and gripping melodies as well as a passionate love story.
