On 7 and 11 January the namerole of “Carmen” will be sung by Oksana Volkova
On 7 and 11 January, Bizet’a opera “Carmen” will be on the Estonian National Opera’s stage again. The title role will be sung by Oksana Volkova from Belarus. In the role of Don Jose will be Michael Wade Lee from USA and the role of Micaela will be sung by Elena Brazhnyk from Ukraine. The conductor is Vello Pähn.
Oksana Volkova studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Music. Her many awards include first prizes at the Glinka and Antonín Dvořák competitions. She made her first appearance as a guest soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2010. Since then, her roles have included the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen”, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Lyubasha (“The Tsar’s Bride”) and Boy (“The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya”), Olga (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”), Fenena (Verdi’s “Nabucco”).
Her international engagements include Olga for Teatro Real, Madrid, and the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Carmen for Teatro Colon, Latvian National Opera and in Salzburg, Savona, Tokyo and Beijing, Olga, Maddalena in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and Sonetka (Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Santuzza (Mascagni’s “Cavalleria rusticana”) for Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Laura (Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda”) in Palermo, Marguerite (Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust”) for Opéra de Nice, Maddalena for Bavarian State Opera and Dalila (Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalila”) in Beijing.
