Estonia holds the second position in the world in the number of opera performances per million residents
According to statistics recently published by operabase.com, Estonia, with its 131 opera performances per million residents during the 2013/2014 season, was on the second place in a ranking of total opera performances after Austria and before Switzerland and Germany. Thus, Estonia has restored its position from two years before. Comparative statistics show that during the 2013/2014 season, Estonian National Opera had 20 operas in its programme and altogether 108 operas were performed, i.e. 64% of all performances.
Two professional opera houses are active in Estonia. With festival performances, private projects and student works, an average of 5 to 10 new opera performances are staged every year.
