Estonian National Ballet gives performances in Sevilla on January 8–11

Estonian National Ballet began its trip to Spain today to give 5 performances of “The Nutcracker” in Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville on January 8–11. There are 89 people in the troupe, including 19 students of the Tallinn Ballet School. The leading roles are danced by Ekaterina Oleynik, Alena Shkatula, Abigail Sheppard, Luana Georg, Denis Klimuk, Sergei Upkin and Jonatan Davidsson. The Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra is led by Risto Joost. 500 dance students and journalists will already attend the rehearsal on the morning of January 8. The estimated number of audience is 9500. Teatro de la Maestranza was opened in 1991 and it was conceived to be the main cultural venue of the Seville EXPO in 1992. The seating capacity of the venue is 1800. Last December, the ballet company toured Venice, where Mezzo TV recorded the performances and it was aired within Christmas programme. In Estonia, the performances of “The Nutcracker” are scheduled for January 23 and 25 as well as February 1.
