The Board of the National Opera has decided to renew the employment contract with Aivar Mäe

According to the decision of the Board of the Estonian National Opera, the employment contract with Aivar Mäe, the General Manager of the theatre, will be renewed for the next five-year term of office, which will begin August 1, 2014.

“I negotiated with Aivar Mäe on behalf of the Members of the Board and he agreed to stay. The theatre has been on a path of creative and economic development under his management, the goals set in the development plan have been met and the opera house is in safe hands,” said Eri Klas, the Chairman of the Board of the National Opera.

According to Paavo Nõgene, the Chancellor of the Ministry of Culture and Vice-Chairman of the Board, Aivar Mäe is one of the most capable cultural managers in Estonia. “We are delighted that in the five years to come, he is willing to continue to put his energy into the development of the Estonian National Opera, which has been thriving under his management,” added Nõgene.

Aivar Mäe’s current term of office in the Estonian National Opera began on September 1, 2009 and will end on July 31, 2014.
