Today, on 31 August the open technical meeting and press conference took place in the Noblessner Foundry in Tallinn, where the biggest classical music event of Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011 and Nargen Festival was presented – opera by Richard Wagner "Parsifal", performed for the first time in Estonia.
The upcoming season will bring along many fascinating productions of all genres. Theatre goers will be treated to treasured classics as well as theatrical works less known in Estonia. Altogether, there will be ten new productions, six concerts and guest performances in Riga, Pärnu, Jõhvi, Paide and Tartu. All in all, the theatre has planned 277 performances for the new season.
On June 11 and 12, Estonian National Opera will give two guest performances at the international opera festival Bartók + Európa 2010. It is a cultural event held every summer in Miskolc. In addition to Estonian National Opera and the local opera theatres, also opera theatres from Czech and Bulgaria will participate.
Today on May 13, Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus will premiere at the Estonian National Opera. Die Fledermaus, one of the most popular operettas by Strauss is brought to the audience of the Estonian National Opera by the Dutch stage director Michiel Dijkema who is renowned for his highly original and intriguing stage productions. In Estonia, he has won acclaim for his 2006 production of Cinderella that is still in the repertoire of the theatre.
On April 29 and 30, the Estonian National Ballet will celebrate the International Dance Day with Ballet Galas by delighting the audience with dance numbers from classical to modern dance. Toomas Edur, Artistic Director of the Estonian National Ballet, brings from world stages to the home audience the soloists who have studied at Tallinn Ballet School - Tiit Helimets from San Francisco Ballet, Linnar Looris from Houston Ballet and Maria Seletskaja and Stanislav Jermakov from Zurich Ballet.
On March 21, the Estonian National Opera will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its long-time soloist Georg Ots with a big gala concert. The DVD "Georg Ots - the legend of the Estonian National Opera" will be released on the same day and an exhibition of items related to Georg Ots will be opened on March 19.
