Wed 06.10 at 19.00 SONGS AT THE TIME OF CRISIS Tunes and stories from Estonia in the years 1929–1933. Where did the police find the master of bankruptcy Aisiskovich? Did the city fathers of Tallinn allow a sailor pub to be opened in Vana-Viru Street? What did the words “ondulate” and “punktroll” mean? Why did two nymphs drown themselves at Pirita? What did the first Estonian female diver recover from the bottom of the sea? How to write to a girl with pleasure-seeking intentions? Was curling short hair a must? What did the court decide when the accountant of the Baltic Station was accused of circulating pornography? How did Paul Pinna run a bar? What was the sound film “Melody of the Heart” about? These and many other questions will be answered in the course of the evening that takes us back to the First Republic at the time of economic depression when heated passions ruled the mind, debacle turned into grand celebration, and young people were still full of joy, love and hope. Swaggering and sentimental songs provide a varied atmosphere and give everybody exactly what they need. Performed by Erkki Otsman (vocals), Tiit Lauk (instrument) and Loone Ots (story).
