Tomorrow, February 17 th , and on Friday, February 19 th , the role of Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s opera "The Queen of Spades" will be sung by a Metropolitan Opera star Aleksandrs Antonenko.
The young Latvian-born tenor has made a successful international career. He is a welcomed guest at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House in London, Oslo Opera House, Vienna State Opera, Monte Carlo Opera, etc. He is a partner to world-famous singers, such as Renée Fleming, Maria Gulegina, Ruggero Raimondi and Carlos Alvarez. Antonenko’s repertoire at the Metropolitan Opera includes major tenor roles in “Carmen”, “Tosca”, “Rusalka”, “Il tabarro”, “Boris Godunov”, etc. Aleksandrs Antonenko’s partners on the stage of the Estonian National Opera are Inessa Galante from Latvia, Rauno Elp, Juuli Lill, Jassi Zahharov, Andres Köster, Mart Madiste, Mart Laur, Helen Lokuta, etc. Stage director is Arne Mikk, designer Eldor Renter. The performances are conducted by Arvo Volmer.
“The Queen of Spades” is one of the most popular Tchaikovsky operas in the repertoire of opera theatres as well as one of the most famous works by the composer. The mystical and romantic opera is full of overwhelming emotions – will Hermann’s passion for cards win his passion for a beautiful woman?
