Mai Murdmaa, Kaie Kõrb and the Estonian National Opera will bring to the audiences a dance performance Phaidra on February 5 at the KUMU Art Museum's auditorium. Phaidrais based on a Greek play HippolytusbyEuripides. The performance makes use of B. Britten's cantata of the same name for mezzo-soprano and orchestra and the music for percussion instruments by a contemporary Greek composer I. Xsenakis. The music is recorded by the Estonian National Opera Orchestra conducted by Mihhail Gerts. In addition to Kaie Kõrb the performance will feature the ballet soloists of the Estonian National Opera Alexander Prigorovsky and Anatoly Arhangelsky and the mezzo-soprano Juuli Lill. The choreographer and the designer for the performance is Mai Murdmaa.
Phaidra is in love with her husband's son who does not return her feelings. Phaidra kills herself without finding a solution for the situation. The performance is about love and its fatal power.
