| Alberto Hold-Garrido will conduct the concert performance of Bellini's "Norma" |
On 11 February, the Estonian National Opera will perform opera "Norma" by Bellini at the Estonia Concert Hall. The conductor of the concert will be Alberto Hold-Garrido from Spain. The roles will be sung by Virginia Wagner from Argentina, Kaludi Kaludow from Bulgaria, Helen Lokuta, Mati Palm, Kristel Pärtna and Oliver Kuusik.

| "Julius Caesar" by Händel for the first time in Estonia |

27 of January will see the premiere of opera "Julius Caesar" by Georg Friedrich Händel at the Estonian National Opera. The music director and conductor is Andres Mustonen, the stage director is Georg Rootering and the designer Lukas Noll from Germany. In the main rolls will perform Teele Jõks, Monika-Evelin Liiv, Helen Lokuta and Katrin Targo.

| Foreign Ministry Cultural Stipends Given to Aivar Mäe, Aet Maatee, Veronika Portsmuth, Märt Agu, and Raul Talmar |

Today Foreign Minister Urmas Paet presented the Foreign Ministry cultural stipends to this year’s recipients. The stipends are given in recognition of people who have helped to introduce Estonia abroad through culture. "We are recognising Aivar Mäe for leading the restoration of St. John’s Church in St. Petersburg as well as members of the creative team for the XI Youth Song and Dance Celebration held in 2011 for maintaining and developing Estonia’s cultural heritage as well as sharing it with the world," said Paet.

The year 2011 proved to be the most successful of the past few decades for the National Opera, breaking previous audience attendance records: the theatrical productions and concerts of the opera were visited by a total of nearly 160,000 people (2009 – 108,113; 2010 – 129,345; an average of 133,000 during the previous 9 years). There were altogether 395 productions and concerts (2009 – 353; 2010 – 369; an average of 319 during the previous 9 years). The average occupation of seats in case of plays performed in the National Opera’s theatre increased to 83% (2009 – 71%; 2010 – 72%; an average of 74% during the previous 9 years).

| This year’s ball at the Estonian National Opera offers dance music to suit every taste |
The Estonian National Opera invites everybody to celebrate the arrival of the New Year in a magical atmosphere inspired by Spain. The ball held on December 31 at the Estonian National Opera will include two programmes directed by Arne Mikk - zarzuela programme The Last Romantic and flamenco programme Moon Romance, featuring the best performers from Estonia and elsewhere. The stage design is by Kustav-Agu Püümann and the choreography is by Marina Kesler, Oksana Tralla, Maria Rääk and Nene Montoya. The Last Romantic is conducted by Jüri Alperten.
