Ronald Hynd
Ronald Hynd trained with British ballet pioneer Marie Rambert and joined the Royal Ballet (formerly Sadler’s Wells) in 1951. He quickly progressed to soloist and then to principal dancer rank, dancing all the great classic roles. After his debut as a choreographer with a 1967 Baiser de la Fée for the Dutch National Ballet, he was urged to accept the position of director of the Munich State Opera Ballet, where he remained from 1970 to 1973 and 1984 to 1986.
For the English National Ballet he has created many ballets: The Nutcracker (1976), La Chatte (1978), Coppélia (1985) and The Sleeping Beauty (1993), etc. Ballets he has choreographed for other ballet companies include In a Summer Garden (1972) and Charlotte Brontë (1974) for Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, Rosalinda for PACT Ballet (1978) and for English National Ballet (1979), Papillon (1979), The Seasons (1980) for Houston Ballet and English National Ballet (1983) and Ludwig (1986) for Munich Ballet, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1988) for Houston Ballet and for Northern Ballet Liaisons Amoureuses (1989), The Merry Widow (1995) for the Vienna State Opera Ballet and for La Scala, The Nutcracker (1996) for the Nice Ballet and Rosalinda (1997) for the Deutsche Oper Berlin, etc.
