Artyom Maksakov graduated from the Tallinn Ballet School in 2004. He joined the ballet troupe of the Estonian National Ballet already in 2003. He is the principal dancer since 2006. In 2007–2008 he danced at the Dutch National Ballet and since 2008 he is again the principal dancer of the Estonian National Opera ballet troupe. His repertoire includes Nutcracker-Prince, Chinese dance (Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker), James (Bournonville’s La Sylphide), Basilio (Minkus’ Don Quixote), Prince and Hunter (Kocsák’s Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs), Prince, Blue Bird, variation and pas de deux (Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty), Hamlet (Titova’s Hamlet, modern choreography), D’Artagnan (Nixon’s The Three Musketeers), Gaston (Härm’s La dame aux Camélias), Benvolio and Mercutio (Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet), Friend (Delibes’s Coppelia), Paride (Cannito’s Cassandra), Benno and the Dance of Napoli (Tchaikovsky’s The Swan Lake), Mahotin (Shtshedrin’s Anna Karenina); he has been the soloist in Christe’s Before Nightfall, Elo’s Red With Me (modern choreography), Ravel’s La Valse, Ravel’s Bolero and danced the pas de deux in The Flower Festival in Genzano, etc.

Artjom Maksakov has successfully participated in international competitions in Sweden (2003, 3rd prize), France (2003, 3rd prize), New York (2007, finalist). In 2007 he received the Chrystal Shoe Award awarded by the Estonian Theatre Agency for the following roles: Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, Prince in Nutcracker.
