"La Sylphide" is a beautiful romantic ballet which takes us to the world of our dreams where the ideal is tried to be achieved, true love is desired and the dream – sylph – is followed. "La Sylphide" created by the famous Danish choreographer August Bournonville in the 19th century, was one of the first romantic ballets which raised the ballerinas on their toes and dressed them into white delicate skirts in order to picture the poetic world of sylphs. The glorious journey of "La Sylphide" on the ballet stages of the world began in 1836. The ballet was performed in the Estonian National Opera in 1982. Now, the ballet is brought on stage by Frank Andersen, the artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet, who is considered to be the best Bournonville specialist in the world. Mikael Melbye, the designer of "La Sylphide", is also a well-known stage director and an opera singer who has performed on several stages.
