Estonian National Opera staged a fairy-tale opera
|
As is the nature of all Gioacchino Rossini’s operas, "La Cenerentola" is full of sparkling melodies, brilliant coloraturas, pronounced characters, and confusion.
All this has been precisely captured in music by Rossini and staged in an excellent, interesting, real fairy-tale or fairy-tale reality way by the Dutch producer Michiel Dijkema. Indeed the stage production, and also the stage design, are the more succulent part of the Cinderella story that has just been presented to the Estonians, leaving enough room for everyone’s fantasy and at the same time reflecting strangely accurately the situation at hand.

Concert performance of La Wally postponed

Due to technical reasons the Estonian National Opera has to postpone the concert-performance of opera La Wally. The concert will not take place on 29 November, but on 15 February in Tartu and on 16 February in Tallinn.

World class can be seen on the ballet stage

The internationally recognized ballet couple Marina Antonova and Guy Albouy will dance the leading roles in two ballet performances in October. They can be seen on October 7 in the ballet "La Dame Aux Camélias" by F. Liszt/ T. Härm and on October 12 in the ballet "Swan Lake" by P. Tchaikovsky/ T. Härm.

Festival brings stars to the Estonian National Opera

June 13–21 will see the opera and ballet festival "Summer Night Stars" in the Estonian National Opera. Artistic Director of the Estonian National Opera Arvo Volmer conducts in Australia

In June, the Artistic Director of the Estonian National Opera Arvo Volmer is conducting again the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in Australia. In course of three programmes Volmer will conduct the German Requiem by Brahms, but also the works by Tchaikovsky and Rakhmaninov.

The collection of donations for the monument has started
|
Estonian National Opera and the Estonia Society started a nationwide collection of donations for the opening of the monument to the place the theatre was born.
On 16th of September, the Estonian National Opera will celebrate its 100th birthday. For that occasion the Estonian National Opera and the Estonia Society want to put up a monument at the Rävala Avenue that would remind us of the location of the old theatre house that was destroyed in bombing on 9th of March 1944.
The work by sculptor Tiiu Kirsipuu and architect Üla Koppel was acknowledged as the best at the design competition of the monument organized in the winter.

International ensemble of soloists brings on stage a tragedy of passion
|
On Thursday, 11 May, the operas "Cavalliera Rusticana" by P. Mascani and "Pagliacci" by R. Leoncavallo will have their premiere at the Estonian National Opera. The music director of the operas is Arvo Volmer, they are staged by Neeme Kuningas, the design work has been done by Charles Cusick Smith (set design and costumes) and Ivo Nikkolo (costumes).

SEB Eesti Ühispank supports the Estonian National Opera with 1.2 million kroons
|
Mart Altvee, Chairman of SEB Eesti Ühispank and Paul Himma, General Manager of the Estonian National Opera signed on 10 May 2006 a co-operation agreement, according to which SEB Eesti Ühispank will support the Estonian National Opera with a total amount of 1.2 million kroons during the next three seasons.

World premiere at the Estonian National Opera

The new Estonian opera "Gourmets-2" will be premiered on March 3. The libretto was written by Ervin Õunapuu who is also the producer and artist of the opera, and Rene Eespere who is the composer of the opera. The musical director and conductor is Arvo Volmer.

The year 2005 was laborious and successful in the Estonian National Opera despite the fact that people had to work in special conditions due to the renovation and it was possible to perform three and a half months less than usual on the home stage. 323 performances and concerts were given during the year and nearly 110 000 visitors were hosted.

The year of Mozart has begun

This year, Mozart’s 250th anniversary is celebrated all over the world. Considering this event, the Estonian National Opera has included several creations of the brilliant composer in its programme. On Mozart’s birthday, January 27, the opera "Don Giovanni" will be performed in which the title role is sung by Rauno Elp and Leporello by Priit Volmer.
